Abstract : In recent years towards research aimed at studying the Internet as one of the recent developments in the field of information and communication, Especially after the appearance of social networking sites, as one of the most important media and digital media tools alternatives, so that the user has provided easy exposure, by supporting a number of multimedia contents, So the special effects monitoring research focused on the individual and society. The study sought to monitor trends in public opinion about the role of social media in spreading rumors, under both the supplies and uses theory, theory of technological determinism, relying on the media, being a research path best suited to explain the functions of the new media. In order to achieve the objectives of the study were using descriptive questionnaire is designed as a tool to collect data from a sample study, which consisted of 346 female and 211male users of social networking sites in Saudi Arabia. Results have demonstrated multiple motives and reasons for use of social networking sites, primarily the ' quick access to information, beyond time and space, and occupied social media as an information source first order 54, 3, as it proved that social networking sites play a large Spread rumors, anonymous news came in first, as the most important Means of spreading rumors through social networking sites, and various effects on individuals as a consequence of rumors, respondents emphasized the importance of addressing rumors in various ways. The study recommended the importance of taking advantage of social networking sites in alarm the seriousness of rumors, and culture awareness of the need to investigate the correct information and news, and to protect the rights of others in parroting or promote what is abusive to them, and try to find technological solutions that contribute to detect and track news sources and information circulating through social networking sites.
