This research aims to reveal the nature of the transformations that afflict the middle class in Saudi society. To achieve this goal, the study follows the transformations experienced by this class for 15 years, to shed light on the logic behind it, and have better understanding of the transformations, in an attempt to reach a progressive point, to understand the logic of transformations.
This study was conducted on a wide sample of Saudi employees in Jeddah city, which almost represent other Saudi cities, The study sought to uncover several key objectives that collectively monitor the transformations impact of the middle class in Saudi society, through monitoring the factors and changes that led to these transformations, in light of the different effects of new local and global policies, and their implications on the middle class, and the adaptation or resistance formulas responding to these policies.
The main question of the study discussed the status and role of the middle class in Saudi society as a result of economic, social and cultural changes in Saudi Arabia from 2000 to 2015, and whether these transformations led to the growth or erosion of the middle class.
The study reached the most important results: The tendency of the middle class in the society towards the administrative and service work pattern. The study also showed indication of social media influence on the economic culture of individuals, which indicate the global effect on the society
The study also found two issues that have an impact on the Saudi middle class, namely: education through which will raise the social, cultural and economic level, while the second issue is the economic level and income, income is a key factor lead to the creation of social differentiation between members of society, but The identification of the middle class can not only be determined by the economic factor only, in spite of its importance, but among other factors.
The study recommended the preservation and expansion of the middle class, so that it becomes a government priority, developing reform programs work to support the growth and empowerment of the Saudi middle class, and to emphasize the role of social, cultural and economic factors to lead healthy growth of the middle class with its development aspirations and visions Cultural and economic mobility and the ability to influence basis from which society begins, this well be the base of the Society strength. |
