Abstract : This study entitled ‘The Grammatical Evidence in the Book Entitled "Tawjeeh Al-Luma" by Ibn el-khabbaz is intended to cast light on the nature of the grammatical quotations in the book entitled ‘Tawjeeh Al-Luma’ and further fathom the relationship between the grammatical quotations and the grammatical base on which it is based. It further aims to study and discuss such relationship in light of the grammatical dispute erupted among various doctrines of grammar. Therefore, objective of the study was to demonstrate how significant is the book and its academic usefulness; and to identify the grammatical thought of Ibn Al-Khabaz, his stance as well as his methodology in presenting these quotations, and to discuss the views of grammarians, and indicate its effect in the grammatical lesson. The study starts with an introduction, followed by a preface with two topics. The first topic is concerned with Ibn Genni; his name and life, culture and academic rank status, the book entitled ‘Al-Luma’ and its importance. The second topic is concerned with Ibn Al-Khabaz, his name and life, culture and academic rank, his Sheikhs and scholars, its academic influence, sources and significance and rank of the book among explanations of the book entitled ‘Al-Luma’. Then, the study is divided into three (3) chapters as follows. Chapter I: is concerned with grammatical quotations; its definition and significance, type of indicator together with the standards of citation. Chapter II is concerned with grammatical quotations in terms of nominative, accusative, and genitive. Chapter III has two topics as follows: the approach embraced by Ibn Al-Khabaz in termsd of grammatical citation and evaluation of such quotations. Among the most significant findings concluded by the study are as follows. Ibn Al-Khabaz is an independent academically distinguished figure, whose scope of knowledge, originality in research, and dedication for discussion and treatment of matters are clearly demonstrated. His distinctive characteristics have further been shown in his bias to the doctrine of neither Basra nor Kufa. In general, Ibn Al-Khabaz had been more inclined to the Basra-related quotations; and had special interest in the Quranic indicator. This is obviously shown in the quotations cited in his study for these grammatical issues. Nonetheless, Ibn Al-Khabaz was less interested in quoting Hadith. Ibn Al-Khabaz quoted additional poetic quotations; and further cited proverbs and sayings of the Arabs in terms of these grammatical issues. However, it remains less when compared to poetry since prose poetry is rare compared to abundance of poetry. He did not submit any new quotations. Rather, he had been a carrier of quotations from grammarians and former scholars. This study has concluded with a number of recommendations as follows. Grammatical and morphological quotations in various sources of grammar have to be traced and limited. Also, significance of such in the field of grammatical studies shall be demonstrated – a matter that would enrich academic research in the field of grammar and further expose the intents of grammatical research and studies.
