Abstract : Environmental pollution is a global and serious problem. Many organic pollutants (such as dyes, surface active substances, pesticides, phenols etc.) are produced by different industries (such as textile and food industries) or even wastewater from domestic uses, seep to ground water, causing severe stress on our ecosystem. Traditional techniques are currently used to reduce dyes in water and lack efficiency. This is mainly caused by the significant solubility of dyes; they simply endure chemical and biological degradation. Some innovative ways have been recently introduced to remove dyes in industrial water: Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), such as Semiconductor photocatalysts that have been created lately, to eliminate dyes properly. This work focuses on studying the performance of metal/metal oxides-MWCNT nanocomposite in adsorption and photocatalytic degradation for removal of methylene blue in aqueous medium. A number of metal oxides, including zinc oxide as one of the most commonly used semiconductors in photocatalysis process were prepared by hydrothermal method, then utilizing these photocatalysts to eliminate methylene blue dye in aqueous mediums under visible light. However, the band gap of most semiconductors such as ZnO (3.30 eV) is large, wavelengths below 400 nm are necessary for excitation, which represents 5% of the sun light and the charge carrier recombination of photo-generated electron/hole pairs occurs within nanoseconds leading to low activity in visible light. Thus, it was necessary to better its activities, by transforming absorption threshold from the UV-region to the visible-region, through loading Pd and MWCNT to change the properties of prepared photocatalysts. Pd/metal oxides-MWCNT were prepared by hydrothermal technique. The textural features of prepared photocatalyst were characterized by different techniques such as XRD, BET, TEM, UV-Vis/DR and fluorescence spectrometer PL. Finally, the effect of loading palladium and MWCNT on photocatalytic oxidation process of methylene blue dye were studied. Here, we obtain an effective nanoparticles photocatalyst for photo degradation of methylene blue dye in aqueous medium, which would allow us to study the activity of such photocatalyst towards photo degradation of different organic pollutants.
